What is Community Shared Agriculture?
Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) is a mutually beneficial relationship between farmers and eaters, ultimately bringing them closer together. Each year, CSA members purchase a share in the coming year’s harvest. By supporting the farm from seed to harvest, members help the farmer use the growing season to its fullest potential, ensuring more abundance for everyone. Everybody wins!
How does it work?
Shared Risk, Shared Reward - Joining a CSA is not like paying for items individually at the market. Instead, you’re buying a share of the whole seasons’ harvest and sharing in the risks and rewards that are inherent to farming; there are always some things that don’t grow as well as expected, and some that produce in abundance! As a member of our CSA, you’ll receive the best of locally available produce and get a feel for what the growing season is like here in East Vancouver. Eating seasonally means that the food is always at its freshest and best, full of all the stuff that we need at the right time of year.

About the Fresh Roots 2012
Schoolyard-Grown CSA
Each share is $700 in total:
- A weekly veggie box for 22 weeks
(5 months) – $650 - A $50 donation to Fresh Roots
Urban Farm Society - Weekly seasonal recipes included in your box
Payment options
To accommodate your needs we offer two payment options. You can:
(i) Pay the full price in the beginning of the season, or
(ii) Pay in 2 installations, one now and the second in early summer
If you are able, it helps us tremendously, as young farmers, to receive the amount in full at the beginning of the season. We accept cash and/or check.
Getting connected
We intend to start sending a monthly newsletter with stories from the farmers, preserving tips, and local community food happenings. Throughout the season there will be opportunities to visit the gardens, take part in a harvest celebration, and get to know our Vancouver locavore community at the weekly veggie box pick-up.
